America is marked as hostile to people from many countries rn. Not sure it qualifies as a good venue for international events anymore.

As a Canadian, I’m not I’d travel anywhere to the US right now. Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal are all great cities.

@posit.co I remember when you moved the 2023 conference from Florida to Illinois. That was awesome! Washington was a great pick for 2024, sad to see we're back to a state where many in our community won't feel safe for 2025.

Speaking just for myself, I feel like Atlanta is a complex issue. The city is one of the major centers of Black culture in the U.S. as well as HQ of LGBTQ South.
[I wouldn't travel to GA if pregnant, though, with the risk of being denied life-saving medical care if something went wrong.]

I understand where you're coming from here, though I think there's another side to consider. Atlanta has an incredible density of Black and African-American talent that would have an easier time attending and networking than if the conference were moved far away.

We're working on organizing a sports analytics conference here in the fall focusing on serving underrepresented groups for just this reason. Moving everything out of the entire southeast isn't a good solution IMO, though I absolutely understand and sympathize with your reasons.
