Do you think there’s a chance we might get to a point that batteries have enough energy density to be worthwhile for aircraft, before companies/governments plumb for liquid fuel options, even tho IMO they prolong the ‘burning’ issue? Perhaps for short haul?

Admittedly if the energy density of batteries could be solved as to be good enough for aircraft, I wonder whether people would be prepared to give up 600+mph for 300-450mph?

As an aside these flying wings from the 1940s were found to be far more efficient at carrying heavy loads than existing designs but technology couldn’t counteract aerodynamic issues. However such designs have been redesigned latterly and work as smaller planes.

So in theory there’d nothing to stop anyone building larger versions to carry passengers (via battery power) efficiently over long distances, with the downside of less speed. Perhaps we could ‘go back’ to equiv of early concept designs of ‘living’ onboard whilst travelling? Use the time effectively.

He was adamant large electric driven props didn’t, couldn’t exist…..

For some time the future of aircraft has been aircraft with a large multitude of small electric propellers and the first significant passenger aircraft that’ll probably fly has propellers of a similar size to existing propellers.
