Strange, indeed: Mars topographic map, pole to equator, shows the same landmarks as seen in the Mercator projection map are also intelligently positioned here, too.

The famous geometric mountain's geological features are positioned at the same angles as it's location on the map.

Science says these positions should all be at random measurements.

The major landmarks of Mars are positioned in an intelligent pattern that divides the planet's circumference into 5 equal parts.
Note the great canyon Valles Marineris is at and along the basic angle of 15 degrees.
Famous geometric mountain is positioned in a mathematically designed manner.

Tonight the Moon will pass between us and Mars, blocking the planet from view for observers in the far north of the UK. Depending on where you are, you might see it grazing the planet, or passing a little further away. Share your observations in the comments!

Mars has a reddish colour because of iron oxide – rust – on its surface. It's also a fast mover, shifting position from night to night, so don't miss it while it's near the Moon!

This evening marks the end of National Astronomy Week, but you can continue chasing the Moon over the coming days – on the 12 February it will be next to the bright star Regulus in Leo.
