In 2024 the US spent 3.4% of gdp on defence so it seems they are aiming for 2% whilst asking NATO to go way above 2% as they should rught now. Granted there is the accumulative affect but still that seems odd to me.

I honestly don't understand the purpose here without getting into Manchurian Candidate conspiracy areas. It simply doesn't align with any rational goal and it is so self destructive towards potential power consolidation as to be laughable. I mean, getting the military on your side is a day 1 goal
