The NDP has been asking this Q for months, and only now the Minister responds with, "oh, well there's an election so we can't!" You had MONTHS to do this before an election! Cut the excuses.

I'm not sure what an election has to do with it. I maybe wrong but i don't think the minister has to sign off on it if the program is in place and the province agrees to the terms and conditions.

The NL NDP has been calling on them to do this as long as the program was ready for provinces, but only now is the gov saying "oh we would but there's an election," as an excuse. They have never committed to signing on, and have said our provincial plan is better (it sure isn't).

They said in response to one of Jim Dinn's QP that they wouldn't want to lose what they have in our plan, but.. it is so inaccessible. Currently, if you work full time min wage, you already make too much to qualify, even though many (maybe most) min wage jobs don't have health insurance coverage.

The 2022 minimum wage review committee (which includes yours truly) made a recommendation that the thresholds for the NL PDP be increased so that NO minimum wage earner would be excluded due the wage increase. Clearly they did not do that.
