i'm not sure, since most of my studying is through school and not self-taught, but what i can recommend is maybe going through some things you already know and studying their Japanese versions!
Definitely want to, but most of the stuff I really like is kind of complicated 😭
If you can find the time I highly recommend getting lots of input/immersion in to really internalize and familiarize stuff, but I recognize my advantage in that I'm doing almost nothing else besides part time work :P

if that's not to your fancy, my Anime Club watched Beyblade X this past Monday and it was kinda peak... def some less hard JPN there
