Revenue at Duolingo in 2024 was up 41% on 23 to $748M. Net income was up by 451% for same period and yet they're firing workers. We've long been at "insatiable greed" point of late stage capitalism. People may feel helpless but there's a very easy way to kick companies like this. Delete their apps.

If you’re studying Japanese, I really recommend renshuu! Very cute app run by a husband and wife team and it’s free with a subscription tier for bonus perks. Plus I find it way more intuitive for Japanese than Duolingo.

Reminder that there is a ton of free public domain Japanese literature available on the Kindle platform. And you can access it via the Aozora app if you don't want to support Amazon. I checked out an Edogawa Ranpo story today.

本なら売るほど (I Could Sell Books) is a love letter for book lovers. This manga is about about a man who runs a second hand bookstore, with each chapter looking at how books have impacted different people's lives. It has lots of good book recs too! Entertainment: ★★★★★ Japanese level: N2 (no furigana)

Here are some science-based techniques to REALLY improve your Japanese vocabulary (and actually remember it): A thread 🧵...

If you're going to use Anki and want a deck that just has good vocab with no regard to JLPT level, you should check out ankiweb.net/shared/info/... It has funny pictures to help you memorize, example sentences with furigana and everything is fully voiced. Incredibly good deck.

おつかれ (good work) to anyone dropping Duolingo despite having very, very long streaks. I know it's not easy, and you have every right to mourn the time you spent on the app. But I also promise there are better options out there.

Anime is a legitimate way to study and practice Japanese.
