Here's a fourth thing: support the campaigns of Josh Weil and Joy Valimont in Florida's special elections to fill the U.S. House seats of Matt Gaetz and another djt appointee. Elections are on APRIL 1, Let's Make a Fool of Trump Day.
Then help Blake Gendebien win in NY state after Stefanik resigns.
If we win all three special elections, we flip the House and install Speaker Jeffries.
That is a good way to support democratic institutions and throw monkey wrenches in the trump/musk takeover.
👍 so I called alert messages for all 3 of my representatives, along with my name and phone number. I am feeling very anxious and vulnerable now, but also proud to have spoken out against the Save Act
It’s not quite true that “many people didn’t watch the evening news.” In the 1980s, 40 million watched the 3 network news shows each night - and they were relatively balanced by the Fairness Doctrine - until it was abolished by Reagan in 1987 (and paved the way for Fox News).
CBS, NBC and ABC aren’t cable networks. And there was no cable in Cronkite’s time. I was there, at NBC Nightly News. We were highly aware of presenting both sides, for good or not, knowing the FD. And we didn’t intentionally lie.
You literally brought up Fox News, which is a cable channel.
And there were cable channels when the FD existed. It did not regulate news. It never prevented lies. And networks are not even licensed. Local stations are.
Yes, and the SpCourt was leaning against the FD as the 80s wore on. Whether it would’ve moderated Fox News 9 years later, I leave to the many fine attorneys on BlSky. My point was that the network news shows had enormous audiences and they were balanced by the FD, which the GOP killed.
The FD could never have applied to them. Red Lion was 1969. U.S. v Playboy is another case that makes this clear. Cable channels are not local broadcast stations licensed by the FCC for the spectrum. They aren’t even under FCC jurisdiction.
Again, the FD didn’t regulate news or prevent lies.

It feels hopeless, but there is still hope and these are practical and easy things to do. #protest

And Cronkite adamantly opposed that policy.
You don’t know what it was.
