There are two distinct parties with very very different values. i do agree that rich people in politics are a problem, but saying "a single party" implies shared ideas and values which is quite the opposite of what is happening in American politics
Chinese American here. I agree. Part of me also misses China but currently I think I'll bite the bullet here. I also made too many friends here in the US but barely any friends in China so it's hard to leave.
Ok, I'm still flabbergasted by that. Even here in Brazil, wich work conditions still pretty shit, we do had a tiny amount of dignity (almostly). Reading those replies and ppl talking about their personal experiences make me feel so concerned.
I see there's a lot of agreement. But also part of me hesitant of moving to China for other matters I don't want to disclose. I also got so many friends here in the US to the point I would prefer to be with my friend and protect them.

Ok so now I understand why when I was working with americans here in Brazil they went straight to eat on McDonalds every day and complain it was not fast enough to eat all in 15 minutes while we have 1 hour paid luch break in any job in Brazil. They were acting like they were in USA.

In my country, many places have a 2hrs lunch break (he standard is 1hrs). You can use it to relax, to run minor errands or even to do an eventual medical check-up without having to use one of your sick leaves.
I'm learning more and more life is better pretty much everywhere else despite the horror stories they tell us about how bad everyone else has us compared to us supposedly...as we work through or skip our lunches routinely trying to make deadlines or meet productivity metrics.

Yea, a few jobs I would 'forget' to take lunch. If I'm stuck suffering at work I want to be paid. Lunch is a break but I don't like being stuck at work and not being paid for it.
That's for retail and light labor jobs. When I worked a car wash the break was definitely needed.

Being allowed to leave is nice, but at the end you're still on company time- you gotta show back up afterwards to finish out your shift. Personally I'd rather a shorter lunch if it means I get to go home or go out and do what I want or otherwise have the rest of my day to myself sooner.
It depends on the job, if the work hours are flexible you should be able to do that if you want, but you are allowed the 2 hours regardless, also Jesus christ america is bonkers workers are left to rot
Hi can confirm, many people GO HOME or go somewhere else or run errands. My college roommate did this when she went over there to teach English. She'd go take a nap or run errands or just relax in her apartment. So did her Chinese coworkers.

You are correct you are required by law to take a lunch over a certain number of hours worked, but it's unpaid. Say you work from 9-5 and take a 30min lunch get paid for 7.5hrs.

It probably depends on their employer, but the guy is probably a salaried employee, so it doesn't matter either way. That said, lunch breaks probably vary by company. My employer's branch office in China gets a 1.5 hour lunch. And I doubt your average hourly wage earner is getting a 2 hour lunch.
I'm salaried but I have to track my hours for billing to clients, so I have to work 40 hours per week and lunch isn't counted in that - if I don't hit 40 hours in a week it gets taken out of my PTO
Ugh, that's annoying. Technically, I'm on the clock for 9 hours a day because lunch also doesn't count, apparently. Which is a common practice where I live. Granted, I do get 1.5 hours for lunch, so technically I'm only working 7.5 hours per day.
Oh yeah there's also the fact that the company also pays for our lunch. In my current company I get, like, 8 euros/day for lunch which is pretty decent for the area. You can also just get that cash, buy groceries and save a lot of money

Dude, not only I have paid lunch time, but I have a daily voucher to lunch. Not all companies pay it, but many medium ou huge companies pay it. And health insurance too.
