A combination of both I think elected officials and most voters in the Democratic Party fit in these factions

First, the Establishment Democrats. This is the party’s old guard, literally. Mostly older, deeply attached to the legacy of Obama and Clinton, and obsessed with recreating that era. Many are Black and wield massive influence over the party’s leadership.

Establishment Dems love identity politics and "woke capitalism"—talking representation while keeping corporate donors interested. They believe elections are won by reassembling the Obama coalition, ignoring how much the political landscape has changed since 08 and Bill Clinton.

Then, the Moderates (New Democrats): young, pragmatic, business-friendly. Their pitch? The party should stay center-left, focus on economic growth, and avoid culture war fights. They see progressives as a liability.

Moderates believe the party loses when it goes too far left. They want to keep the donors happy while appealing to urban/suburban professionals with market-driven policies. Bring in rural voters by avoiding culture war fights.

Then Progressives. They want big change—Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, wealth taxes—but they don’t actually have a leader. Bernie is too old. No one else has fully stepped up. They’re loud but lack real institutional power. Zero ability to run national candidates, obsessed with purity tests.

Then the last is Democratic Socialists, they aren’t really Democrats at all. They hate the party but don’t have the numbers or infrastructure to start their own. So they exist in a parasitic relationship with the Dems while blaming moderates/establishment for everything.
