I'm British, got a question. When Schumer says a govt shutdown would likely result in court proceedings being shutdown and a reduced ability to hear cases against Doge etc, is he correct? Because if so, that seems to me to be an important point. Yes? No?

That's a flat lie. Federal courts can continue for a few weeks. State courts are unaffected.

The Anti-Deficiency Act allows courts to continue essential functions.

Can someone tell me what would have been gained by blocking the bill? You have zero leverage, you’d get no consessions from Rs, you’d be blamed for the shutdown by 80% of Independents, and Musk/DOGE/Trump would have even more power during the shutdown.
