For most of these BRAND drugs, the initial research was done by taxpayers $$ via NIH, CDC, NSF etc. Should we not receive reduced price drugs as a 'token royalty' for the 'R' part? If you trace back literature, you'll find foundational work frequently cites the named funding sources.
