I wish they would re-evaluate their model. Doesn't feel like they have changed anything since they opened up to third parties. The split made sense before due to overhead but NOW? they would make billions off AAAs and micro transactions alone I'm sure

it would be great but I don't think it's practical for as many games they host and all the features each one utilises. Epic can get away with this because their shop doesn't offer close to the same amount of features Steam does - the fact they apparently were taking 12% is kinda laughable

I'd love to see Steam *decrease* their cut but I don't think taking it out completely is going to be the move long term. Epic still has a long way to go in terms of customer experience so I'm hoping they take some time to actually sort that out, because 0% of $0 sales will suck either way

I also feel *very* mistrustful of Epic's vetting process since they allowed NFT/blockchain games to exist on their store and we all know how that went. There's a reason Epic has the reputation it does, and as both a dev and a consumer, I'm mindful of that. it's hard to feel it's not a hat trick.

it's just poorly made.a lot of the account settings send you back out to a web browser window instead of being in-app. for a while it didn't even have a shopping cart which is kinda wild. the store pages for games don't allow regular user reviews and are just unpleasant to look at.

peep the difference between the store page I just posted and the store page below - does not seem there are standards for image sizing on logos, which should be a basic requirement for a uniform storefront experience. also, transparent logos mean dark mode users may not be able to see said logo.

Steam's algorithm is also due for an overhaul. An environment where AAA and "hits" are the ones that get exposure is not developer friendly. The "more like this" at the bottom of a game page always makes me roll my eyes lol

it is not just steam it is also GOG, Playstation, Microsoft and Nintendo. Nintendo did the 30% cut from the NES days

20% or 15% will be pay cut will be nice if there doing something good with the money. I know valve gives some money to help speed up wine and wayland on Linux to help there proton compatibility layer and Steam Deck.
