Dutton has said the bail-out of Whyalla's steel works is "Whitlam-esque" like it's a bad thing. π #auspol
The federal government is, apparently, considering an ownership stake in return for the support. Sounds great to me.

Well he likes Trump.
Michaela sez weβll get a Trump-like govt if heβs elected. π΅βπ« Quite the warning! π±
So Whitlam-democratic activities - social cohesion etc - would be anathema to his tight little attitudes. π€·πΌββοΈπ
Can't see lnp winning this one. Aus has subsidised coal, gas+other mining 4ever, Can't see the difference.,except, much mining is in foreign ownership, Aus having $stake in it makes sense
More Whitlamesquing I reckon π
What exactly sounds great to you about the Federal government owning some (or all) of a steelworks?
What do you think is going to happen when it comes out of administration?
The company gets the investment it needs, but the taxpayers get a stake in the business they've just invested in.
Another rich arsehole just walking away.
When he took over the operation, one of my friends (who lauds billionaires) was very excited about it. I warned him.
π€¦ What can you do?
AND ... NO subsidies anymore - let the governments take a stake in them instead; e.g. instead of the 114.5 billion dollars just GIVEN to FF companies with no strings attached in 2024, force them to give over percentages of the companies instead.
Either:
A) they refuse, in which case they won't be getting anymore government handouts - WIN!
or:
B) Our government still gives them the same money they were going to get anyway, but now we get dividends from the exploitation of our OWN RESOURCES - WIN!
Might as well. They're incapable of telling the truth or doing anything that makes sense.
