All good but really this should have been said before October 2023.
In fairness to Vance she wasn't allowed to interview Luxon for her book 'Blue Blood' & listening to her speaking to Toby Manhire about the book I got the impression she had reservations about Luxon.
Agreed in that all media commentators would have served the public so much better if they had looked at even half this level of scrutiny prior to the election 🤦🏼♀️
TBH, it probably would have made little difference. The electorate was in a very cranky mood & Labour probably one of the first incumbent of many to suffer a swing because of inflation. (In 2024 for the first time ever recorded, there was a swing against every incumbent govt seeking re-election).
I keep thinking of what a very experienced gallery journalist told me at the 2024 Budget Lockup - National was one of the laziest oppositions they'd ever seen. Unsurprising really because all possible paths fell into place for them in 2023. Luxon appears to be not self-aware enough to realise that
Winston's re-emergence is a testament to Luxon's ineptitude. And that could be very dangerous for us all. I could see Luxon offering up a referendum on Te Tiriti as a means of "strengthening" Act & sidelining Winston (by essentially putting him alongside TPM if he was to protest the idea).
