Neurologist on RNZ is saying any symptoms can be psychosomatic but that ADHD is being over diagnosed
As someone who burned through 32 years of my life undiagnosed bipolar I find shit like this pretty tiresome

I was diagnosed as a child, and haven't been able to get a new diagnosis because I can't afford it. Which means I'm unmedicated. Which means I can't fucking work.

Politicians and the public should butt out and stop trying to police people who are struggling to find the scaffolding they need to live their best lives.
When GPs warn that referral for assessment in the public system is unlikely to be approved “unless it’s severe”, and a private assessment is around $2000, where exactly are all these extra diagnosed people coming from??

Listening now. UK based so will be differences. And a "medicalising of aspects of the human condition" sounds like a valid criticism.
Is a very common presentation
My diagnosis came after I jumped of a roof which is clearly not the path we want people to have to take
Moved to NC, my new MHNP diagnosed me a ADHD Inattentive, at 54.
Too many doctors confused the PTSD symptoms that people experienced by being on house arrest during the COVID pandemic with ADHD and put everyone on Adderall.
suddenly getting diagnosed, but we’ve always been here.
But, from everything I’ve heard/read, you can also tell a lot about whether someone has ADHD or not from one dose of stimulant medicine.
But even the diagnostic process involving self-response is not easy in itself to get through in itself if you have ADHD.
And there are multiple follow-up appointments before your GP is allowed to prescribe.
Diagnosis at 56
My sis/stepdad paid- impossible otherwise.
Unsupported/unmanaged can be a complete life wrecker -im a case in point
Public system refuses most referrals.
I had my mum all lined up, discussed how they usually want to talk to family members about how you were as a kid etc, while I waited for my referral to come through.
But it is such a common thing for ADHDers to have already tried someone else’s medicine and noticed the difference; I was asked if I had - no judgement - during my assessment. I hadn’t (illegal!).
But first dose of prescription meds was very telling.
I struggle with dosage and timing, but overall things are better, at least for work.
Forgive my frustration !
Fuck off.
Diagnosis has helped us develop communication and happiness.

Like you're ruling out most people just with the barrier to entry
FRANKLY I REGRET DOING IT
