Enormous law enforcement presence near the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles. They just declared an unlawful assembly and gave the hundred or so protesters 10 minutes to disperse.

An idea for protesters: Carry signs stating that the Natl. Guard/Marines/other military took their oath to the Constitution. The more they see, the more they will think about that.
If you'd rather protest with an American flag, I encourage you to do so. Let people choose their own tactics when they're defending their own community.
When you show up to your own local protest you are free to bring a US flag. Otherwise, your opinion isn’t helpful. Criticize the administration or the police if you feel the need to nitpick.
The issue is you telling other people what to do at their local protest rather than focusing on your own action at protests. And I’m assuming here you have local protests you’re going to, because if you’re telling people what to do at their local protest as a non-protestor that’s worse.
Agree 100% - This is easy: DON'T fly foreign flags, fly the American flag. Otherwise you're handing the right-wing propagandists fuel to discredit these legitimate protests and helping them turn public opinion against the protests.
Honestly, if someone is on the fence at this point in our descent into a neofascist state, I don't know what else to show them. Others can take on that job. I'm too tried.
Exactly. One thing MLK understood was that certain forms of protest are needed to elicit sympathy from those not disposed to giving it. I'm sure he got a lot of shit for that approach at the time.
TACO man already sent in the troops. The only flag that wouldn’t have ended with him doing that is a flag of his own face. Multiple people have posted examples of how your logic is flawed. I’m not trying to change your mind, just give you feedback on how constructive you’re being at this point.
The one who bought her tote bag? The tote bag was killing me. Like she had been walking from the parking lot to the nail salon and somehow got accidentally swept into this crowd.
What is an unlawful assembly? Sure, if there's violence. But who decides this using what criteria? Or, do the powers that be arbitrarily just make it up as they go along?

Does LAPD have the ultimate authority to say "this isn't peaceful, so it's illegal" for whatever reason it makes up?
Just miserable scolding from miserable scolds, who think there are secret but knowable ways of Protesting Correctly
Anyways, GFY
And then I’ll raise the stakes even more by posting this other terrible optics photo. 🙄
:)
This isnt a failure of the protestors, its a failure of the media
Stop being a fucking scold, chris
A visual of protesters wrapped in US flags getting gassed and shit at is a lot more sympathetic to him and those like him.
Well, these people seem very nice, I think I'll follow them and see where they are going.
