The Mega Drive/Genesis had lots of coin-op conversions, but how important were they to your own experience of the console? Did you always seek out the greatest arcade offerings, or did you find yourself more interested in the system's other games?

You bought it because you wanted to replicate the arcade experience, but stayed for the more in depth "story modes".
Speaking of which, I'm off to have another crack at MERCS.
Honourable mentions (though not arcade games) to Shining In The Darkness and Shining Force.
The latter half of my time with MD became about the originals.
