Fuck, this is abysmal. When I wrote to Sen. King on the NIH cuts and DOGE I got a detailed, point-by-point response. I doubt Sen. King wrote it himself, but it sure as hell felt like he did.

I've always understood that people that pursue political office are generally motivated by fundamentally undemocratic things. Consolidating power is about compromising positions and allying with corporate interests. But at least before it was under a veneer of respect for norms and values.

Over the last several years, that veneer has disappeared. They are openly benefitting from insider trading and market manipulation, ignoring constituents and solely representing corporate interests, and abdicating any illusion that they want to protect human rights or, even worse, democracy itself.

A representative system cannot work if the representation is skewed only to those with money, power, and influence. We have vanishingly few tools left to effect change. Economic protests and labor strikes may still work, but AI and the transition to an investment economy will destroy those as well.

Voted exactly like you & for the exact same reasons. When I saw Kirk was to be his podcast guest, I had a very brief moment where I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt & hoped it'd be like Buttigieg on Fox. But, no. There are so many he had to choose from & Kirk is especially vile.
