As I understand it, if the design is not backdoored, the key bus to/from the SE is hardware-isolated to prevent exactly this kind of attempt. I could certainly be wrong.

As for what was or wasn't on the table, that's a separate question from whether this was a concession. And it was.

Not disagreeing it’s a concession but it’s one of apple’s making, in a direct fuck you to the attempted secrecy. Someone else described it as a warrant canary and I think that’s quite fitting.

That's a good point. Assuming legal procedures are followed (and we don't yet have a reason to think otherwise), each request needs legal authorization. It's not like GCHQ or whoever has global read on UK iCloud.

Well given the whole request for the back door was supposed to be secret I have my doubts about ripa allowing objections
