On a walk today while listening to the always lucid and humane #johngreensbluesky read his newest, Everything Is Tuberculosis, I was struck by his report of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's involvement in debunking claims for the tuberculin cure while also recognizing the substance's diagnostic power.

What, exactly, is required to prepare our minds against wrong thinking, unwarranted conclusions, and bad but nevertheless sticky notions unsupported by evidence? It's a despairing thought, given the persistence of bad ideas.

Then I saw this from TON and was glad. Truth's practitioners--scientists, journalists, the rare politician--need to keep talking and sharing and insisting on valid, testable reality. Epistemic concerns are not academic, they're often enough matters of life and death.

This is, however, a justice issue. In the Pew study above, the racial disparities in scientific understanding should alarm all of us.
