I'd argue the MOST important thing in a story is good subtext, each component of a story is important (plot, theme, arcs) but if there's one thing you REALLY can't miss the mark on, it's subtext.
Nobody wants to hear something along the lines of:
William angrily yelled "I AM ANGRY!!" #screenwriting
