hmm, maybe if you're able to use retroarch? I'm not 100% sure. in my case I wanted to have it as a "channel" on my Wii U like a regular game, so I injected it into a Mario Kart DS channel. The version I'm playing might as well be a virtual console game now, so no. but you get restore points!
honestly there was a time when I didn't even see the magic, save for Mario Maker and Smash 4. But my opinion on it, ten years too late unfortunately, has completely changed
if you scroll through my page here on Bluesky, it's all I've been talking about. I took it back out after the Xenoblade X Switch port announcement and have only been playing my Wii U -- it's amazing!
to be fair, Nintendo barely marketed it.
the Wii U faded into obscurity rather than being rejected, still sad though as it was pretty cool and paved the way for the Switch
I think the marketing was confused. even ignoring the initial reveal everyone talks about, 95% of the commercials were aimed at kids, yet when the console launched it actually had a ton of more mature games (but many were multiplats). it also had to compete with the 3DS, & while it's games are ... 🧵
no. an easy way to think about emulation is to ask yourself, "were the two systems out at the same time?" if so, the answer will always be no -- the Wii can't emulate Nintendo DS, the GameCube can't emulate PS2, etc. So far that rule remains true. 3DS and Wii U were on the market at the same time.
I'll also get a job, maybe at my local game store once I move and get an ID (GameXChange is one I got my eyes on atm)
I do plan to split the check with my mom to help the family, but I will keep my half so I can save for a Wii U
What helped me was I actually traded in some of my Switch games that were ports of Wii U games (like Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze), and grabbed the Wii U versions instead. A lot of them are much cheaper and basically the same as the Switch version, save for longer loading times.
my brother lets me borrow his modded wii u and I always think about how unfair we were to this
glorious beast. It's currently the best way to play Twilight Princess for me!
I admitted like didn't get it back in 2012-2013! Mario Maker and Smash 4 won me over a little, but honestly it wasn't until pretty recently that I realized how great this system was and could have been.
It's a little tricky to region change, but I picked up two japanese black consoles for 'bout $60. Definitely a fun console I expect to tinker with a lot more soon.
yeah, I paid extra for an American one just because I couldn't seem to find consistent information on how to change over Japanese ones. But if you can do it, kudos because they're so much cheaper!!

the 3ds was a success and the Wii U was selling less and less year after year, so they had to suddenly shift focus towards R&D on a new machine.
The cramps… the mashing pains… so horrible!! :(

a superior system

It's not easy, but you're right - japanese consoles are cheaper :)
Region changing the gamepad is a different beast, fortunately it's unnecessary.
