If you're enjoying Bluesky and you don't want it to turn into the cesspool of hate that Twitter did, you best speak up now. Cut that 'I don't know what to say' shit out and amplify Black and queer voices, because the BS team ain't listening to us.

A person registered an account with the n word as its name. It turned out there was zero filtering for slurs in account names. Some community members hastily put together a patch, which bluesky applied. Everyone is outraged that this very basic precaution wasn’t taken months ago.
I wanted to comment with just a repost of my tweet, but Jack Dorsey is forcing me to say something. I'm beginning to think this site is not the "promised land" we all thought it was.
My network does not have any racists in it so I’m not seeing the issues people are describing but I’m happy to spend my time reporting/bullying the assholes off this platform if someone will aim me at them.
They want engagement, that’s why they’re here. Block, report, and demand this place spend the money to hire moderators, and pay POC for their time in advising.
My full initials are SEO but I've always used SOB. I always thought my parent's didn't think that through but now one of my kids has the same first initial.
It seems so simple, like... this is a piece of software run by a private company, just fucking hire people to do something about this problem. How terribly hard is that? WHAT they do can be debated, but like, do SOMETHING. Jeez...
Many things tbh, but all the noise in the last day has been because you can use slurs as a @ but not swears. Basicaly your handle can't use "fuck" but it can use the n word, for ex.
And they recently banned someone for using "cracker." There has been no apology, no action plan, and they still have not hired personnel to address these problems.
I like my social media to reflect the diversity in my life. People without prejudice welcome. How can I learn if I don't hear from those different from myself?
Worst part is, it’s *so* easy. If you don’t know what to say, or think what you have to say doesn’t add value to the conversation, just like and reskeet without comment.
Well first you should be capitalizing the B in Black and why not just say Black people’s aid? I mean you want support for ALL Black people not just your Black friends. Sentiment of wanting people who have ignored the issue to actively combat it is good though
Furthermore, this kind of weird political correctness policing is actually somewhat detrimental to the cause. Spending many hours wasting time in-fighting over small issues when there are much bigger problems to focus on is bad activism at best. I'm not gonna tell activists how to activist though.
You asked a question and I offered an answer, I’m not sure why it made you so upset. I was just saying that when you say “our Black friends” it can appear to come off as “your friends” when in reality we should want it for even the people you may not actually get along with or know.
I can't decide whether you're a troll or not, but you come off as very dismissive and defensive. I notice this sometimes in people who talk about race because there's so much pressure not to get things wrong, but it brings into question your sincerity in discussing these issues.

Usually it's "queer", "black", or "black queer"
Makes it feel like we're in it together :)
There's a style of edgy humor I like to use to pacify situations, but I don't want to accidentally contribute to the problem either.
Is saying "black friends" as a white person OK or is that blunt or something?
Black Person -> Encourages Psychological segregation of each skin color
black Person -> Emphasises you are just a regular person

I wasn't in the US this decision came out so I must have missed the memo, thanks!
This was the broad category of "friends" not people specific to my immediate social circle.
I think this particular interpretation / concern is overthinking the language of things.
I don't get mad at people when they verbalize how pointless gendered bathrooms are...
The minutia can be flawed, they're making an effort, that's 1000x better than those actively signing up to murder me in a genocide.

black Person -> Emphasizes you are just a regular person who happens to be black
