fwiw, Arch seems to work fine with my 4060ti. Only issue was having to use the nomodeset kernel parameter until installing the nvidia driver packages

Is there an arch distro that uses flatpacks and handles Nvidia GPUs fine? Mostly gonna do server management and gaming on it.

Considered #BazziteOS and #NobaraOS. I've read great things about both, and #Nobara seems like a better fit, but I wanted to ask the BlueSky #Linux community for opinions.

I love NobaraOS ive hop from Cachy and nobara and always find myself back to nobara. Everything just works

Especially if you want to do content creation nobara installer has tools that fixes Davinci Resolve and installs OBS with all the necessary plugins

Using #Nobara with a RTX 3060 for about a year I think. No issues at all! The documentation is great and the discord is also helpfull. For me there is nothing to complain about with Nobara. Would advetise it to anyone who has a Nvidia card and want to use Linux.

Can you install flatpacks through the app store like on arch? It's a convenience I've grown to appreciate from using the Steam Deck. I was kinda leaning towards Nobara myself because it "feels" like a passion project. Not sure if that makes sense lol

You can install nearly anything through the app store, yes. Since I'm on KDE it is "Discovery". DNF is also a solid package manager for some niche stuff you may want to install. Nobara got me into using Fedora on my work laptop and the Fedora support and the docs are just great!

I think I'm gonna install Nobara tomorrow, and see what it's like. I'm a little concerned about my audio interface and drivers for it. I like KDE so I'll probably use that.

Can't say much about audio interface support. I don't had any issues on any of my devices with Nobara.

I'd highly recommend CachyOS. It's Arch-based + nVidia drivers are included. It's also the only mainstream distro that provides optimised packages for specific CPU families, for max performance. Flatpak isn't included by default though, but it's just a single command to install: "paru flatpak".

If you do go for CachyOS, I'd recommend going with the KDE option, IMO the best DE for gaming right now. KDE also has the "Discover" app, which is a GUI store for installing Flatpak apps.

I'll add it to the list to try. I'm gonna start with Nobara, try that for a week, and see how I feel. The. I'll try out CachyOS. If I remember right, it's as a faster lightweight OS. Maybe I'll throw it onto one of my laptops to try. Not a gaming laptop but should play older games to test.

It's certainly much more lightweight than Nobara, but I wouldn't market Cachy as specifically as a "lightweight" distro (that implies that it's suitable for old/low-spec PCs). I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's tuned for max performance by making use of features found in newer CPUs.

It's aimed at people who have newer hardware and want to make the most of it. Because most Linux distros target the base x86-64 arch - ie CPUs going all the way back to the Pentium 4. This makes distros widely compatible, but then you miss out on the new features and optimisations on new CPUs.
