Tbh it’s like 2% worse to have a gun with no serial to look in a warehouse full of paper for, compared to normal guns that DO have a serial to look for in a big warehouse full of paper. The warehouse full of paper is federally mandated to make finding those serials as difficult as humanly possible

gun serials are "recorded" on paper. the paper is sent to a big warehouse. it's "filed" in triple reverse alphabetical order by adding the middle thirds of the serial, multiplying by your birthday and dividing by B, rounded to the first primary color. this ensures your registration is never found.

It's only worse if you are under the impression that most guns in the US are "traceable", which is shaky at best.

Any person-to-person cash buy with a fake ID is just as much of a "ghost gun" in practice.

TBF, 3d printing just makes it easier. The metal parts that have to be purchased aren't serialized but the "80 percent lower" is what's 3d printed but it used to be just metal you could buy legally too. Could probably make it out of any material of reasonable strength TBH.
