Si hortum in bibliotheca habes, deerit nihil. Hortum, orto in Italian, is the garden where you grow the vegetables. Romans were pragmatic, food for your body and your mind. πππ
Of course he didn't factor in needing more help caring for a live-in relative with advancing dementia. I have both a garden and a library. I have no time to give to either. He had servants as a given, I guess.
also, a log cabin made out of the finest small trees from the woods with a porch built by my grandfather, and a garden next to it near a lake with my pets.
I donβt have much of a green thumb, but I do love a beautiful garden. I have my own little home libraryβ just a room, full of shelves and books and little trinkets from my travels.
I "discovered" Plato's Republic when I was about 15 yrs old. loved it and went on to read related material. All the worthwhile, insightful stuff has already been said, time and time again, hasn't it?
If you have good friends with whom share the good and bad thrills of life, you have everything you need to make your sojourn on the face of the earth as pleasant as can be.
Yes.. if by garden you mean a lovely yard with low maintenance and a landscaping company.. well, but the yellow jackets are a bit annoying. I would mostly agree that gardens are the path to a #charmedlife However, itβs not the garden or the book.. It is the peace I find there.
Shout out to Cornwall Libraries, as they now operate as one big library, which is easy to utilise! Also, their BorrowBox offer is fantastic. And then there's their diversification, with many new offers to children, including clubs for Lego, coding and more!

Library and a market within walking distance. I have so little interest in gardening that itβs sad. I grew up on a small subsistence farm and when I got out of there, I swore Iβd not spend my life grubbing in the dirt. I have wonderful gardening friends, though, and I love to see what theyβve done.
