What are five or fewer rules for netiquette?
Basic internet hygiene?
The same way we learn about road crossing safety and what bathing suit areas are. Or the golden rule.
That's easy to remember quickly unto adulthood.

3. don't say something you wouldnt say to their face
4. stop when you're not having fun
NOT everyone online is a real person
And what that looks like
why, how, where
But if a human is acting like a bot, treat them like one. Block. Refuse convo. deny them your presence (your attention is valuable)

3: Protect your face and location.
4: Use an open-source password manager.
5: Don't neglect the real world.
is a rule i learned back in my forum mod days and on DA
and it's even more important now.
Be aware of your emotions, what a person is trying to goad you into. Dont take the bait.
How to react instead. If those boundaries arent respected, escalate to mods.
Leave. No quality social space lacks sufficient moderation. W/o community driven boundaries, bad people flock. You can't single handedly change people out to hurt you. (that takes dif action)
Your presence IS valuable. Remove if necessary for your sanity.

Kids def need to learn how memes can harm tho. Too many kids share racist stuff and think its "gamer language"
And it's not just kids. Adults do the same thing, so we know its not one-sided. On the internet most people aren't socially conscious to what outcome their words could produce.
That said, rules that children can learn are rules anyone can learn. Starting with what a ten year old can grok means it's easier for all of us to communicate them effectively.
It makes them vulnerable to "hugboxing" by folks encouraging them to be crappy. Which makes it even harder to socialize if ur online peers keep encouraging you to do antisocial things.
Teach kids what "read the room" means

3. Try searching on your own before asking for help
4. It's always better to ask nicely, even if you're feeling frustrated
Assume everything you post will be on the internet forever.
Be nice to other people, you don't have to comment on things that make you mad.
Try not to be on the internet all day.

Theyre generally only vaguely in context to the subject. Their posts might look genuine otherwise, but thats easily faked. Check the replies to see how they interact with real humans. And then the patterns become more obvious.
