The metal parts get marginally more wear down until something literally snaps, if you can, change it, if you can’t, don’t force the car too much until you can
Nothing for a time, but after some time that old oil will start dont work anymore, and oil for a car is like blood for us, like a person with sugar in blood start have issues, car is like this, so all parts will work without lub, it spoil parts, scrath, but it take a time for happen, break engine
JiffyLube fucked up my oil change a few months ago that made it leak out, so after a couple hundred miles my car started chugging on acceleration and making some really horrible noises while driving.
oil becomes sludge, stops lubricating effectively, different parts get higher temps, more friction. you might use more fuel than normal as the engine has to work harder. synthetic is more forgiving, especially if you only drive short trips, with no serious towing weights.
To provide some reassurance: modern synthetic oils are good for longer than older variants- 7500-15000 miles, sometimes up to a full year. I wouldn’t sweat it too bad, especially if you’re not putting the miles in. Just get it changed when you can!
Nothing immediate, but if the engine isn't getting properly lubricated, issues & damage can occur from wear that will keep getting worse. Go get it changed asap so you don't end up with a huge repair bill down the road. Plenty of places do fast drive thru oil changes.
my car tells me the percentage because back when i needed it, it was only at 48% full so i was like i feel like i can wait… i did book an oil change today and its at 24% rn so i think it wont be too much damage….🫥
Yeah that'll be fine. I just had to have my entire engine block repaired/replaced because coolant was leaking in & the suspected culprit was a lack of lubrication in those regions of the engine. Thankfully it was all covered by warranty, but still pretty scary. Get mine done every 6 months now.
Depends on how many miles you put on it between last oil change. Your cars maintenance manual will say how often you should do it. Mine is every 6k miles. Anything more than that and I’m tempting fate. A good rule of thumb is 3-4k miles
It’s still good to change it before that point, but I’m a space cadet and rarely remember before I see the thing pop on my dash going “girl what are you doing?”
Depends on the car and the oil you’re using. I used to be rigid about the 3,000 miles/3 months thing, but going longer actually improves my gas mileage.
If you check your oil’s dipstick and compare it to what your car needs, that’ll tell you for sure
