But what they were taught instead was critical literacy, inference and evaluation.
It’s be a shame if the current push towards old style literacy instruction lost the focus on understanding.
But the previous age groups line chart shows change from one cohort to the next.
Causes unclear and to be debated!
I would suspect a combo of covid-19 pandemic, more digital stuff & screen time and an increase of MAGA-ism. 😬
Ours is a good school (formal Ofsted categorisation), but we follow the National Curriculum; I don’t think we’re unique. The things the pupils are expected to know, especially in grammar, far outweigh anything I was taught.
