I, too, have fallen in the Raspberry Pi vortex. I will say if you can't come up with anything better for it, installing Pi-Hole and blocking every ad on the internet at the router level is pretty sweet.
I bought so many keypads to go with various tablets and none of them did it for me. I just couldn't make it work. I just got rid of the tablets and upgraded my laptop.
It made me more comfortable with installing Linux. I use mine as a media center with Kodi. If you want more desktop experience or cmd like, try Raspbian.
Just go mine a couple weeks ago and I’ve like HomeBridge the most. Nice to have every random smart home thing you in Apple home. Turning up the furnace on a cold night from my watch is so cozy.
