Like many of you, I used to struggle with space to store my board games. Then I poured all the components loose in to one big box. Try it today, nobody can stop you

This is the sort of thing I'd do if I didn't live with a voice of reason. He even separates components back into the expansion boxes, so...
I don't see what would be wrong with having one mega-box for all the boards and components and just getting out the ones needed for your chosen game. # heathen
Calvin as global boardgame enforcer would be excellent.
Board game report: "My friend isn't enjoying Brass Lancashire and is slow at their turns, make them play better"
Calvin polis: "what are, 5? Be a better friend and find something you both enjoy"
Also for maximum aggravation, you need to mix all the euros from about 10-12 years ago that were all discs, cubes, and meeples into one box and then hide the rule books.

To be really efficient, separate and sort them by page number.
Keep the rules, not the game setting. Done it once, remember it forever!
Everyone knows you stack them vertically in the backyard shed next to the mulch.

I could see that.
It's their stuff and life of course, but a knee-jerk minor pearl-clutch from me every time.
This might be the one that drives me back to r/boardgames.
