In Japanese, bog is "doronuma" (kanji for "mud" (also used in the word for thief!) and "marsh") and peat bogs are "deitanchi" (kanji for mud again, and charcoal and earth).
All the wetland names go hard - bogs, swamps, fens, marshes, seeps. I also love vernal pools but that’s more of an acquired taste. There were some vernal pools at the nature preserve by the house where I grew up.
i find ‘marsh’ works pretty well, too. if “onomatopoeia” is the term for a word that sounds like what its describing (ie. splat, hiss), what’s the word for something that looks and feels like what it’s describing?
