See also "convenience" products that some people love to label as being for "lazy" people. Many such products actually fill an accessibily need that would not be met if they did not exist. So what if people buy them regardless of their (in)abilities? They are products, not convenience products.

Exactly. Accessibility features on phones & computers started somewhere, for example. It just provides a range of options, & things that work to meet the needs of disabled folks also suit folks who don’t carry that label.

There’s a really good TedTalk The Myth of Average that led to being able to think that way about things. Accessibility is just offering a range of options instead of one. What benefits disabled folks benefits everyone bc people have choices & can figure out what works for them. Universal design.

Only the other day I posted on Mastodon about a particular navigation bar there that I sometimes struggle with. Someone replied with an alternative way of using that same function (one I did not know about) and it's made my life SO much better. Having multiple options for the same is everything ❤️

I once heard that disabled people referred to by “normally” abled people as “temporarily able”. I like this notion that all of us share in disability at some point.
