finding the stand-alone Syzygy graphic novel The Price was a big moment for me in my early years of becoming a reader instead of a collector. I “needed” to find that backstory because I loved the journey Vanth & Co were on.

I had a couple of the EPICs already, but the "Metamorphosis Odyssey" story didn't really hit me until I had all the issues with all the parts and I could read 'em in order. (Later, Graphitti Designs put out a nice hardcover of the story, plus the GNs and other material, which I recommend.)

I got the newsstand reprints of the first 6 issues at a flea market and then spent the next decade assembling the entire Starlin run and about half of the Epic Illustrateds. I ended up getting the collection before I could find all of the issues

I loved that series. I reread it a few years ago and still love it, even if late in the run it gets very recap heavy every issue.

Yeah, Starlin loved his "PREVIOUSLY, IN DREADSTAR" stuff. But to be fair, I can probably use more recaps like that in the monthlies I follow. Maybe not, like, four or five pages of it!

It made perfect sense when it was a bimonthly book - which I know it was when Peter David was writing it and I think it was at the end of the Starlin run

The Weird did have some visual similarities to that character, but it's Syzygy Darklock, the sorcerer that was part of Dreadstar and Co.
