for video game dev, the times are Unprecedented:

-easier than ever to make amazing shit
-easier than ever to find creatively-compatible people to make it with
-more affordable than ever to punch above your weight technically
-THE MOST IMPOSSIBLE IT HAS EVER BEEN TO GET A SINGLE DOLLAR OF FUNDING
there are ways to stay afloat if you are very small with low costs but like... fuck that imo. that doesn't work for me. that's not why i'm here. i want to make art with like-minded artists and it's literally a solved problem, the problem isn't creative uncertainty, it's 100% who's holding the cash
