So agree. The Star Wars universe is incredibly thin. For me, the writers took the most mysterious element, the Jedi, and kneecapped it bc of plot twist (they created the Stormtroopers!). (tbf, there's a morality play about war in there that could be a great story - Star Trek has done it often).

star wars consistently does best when it builds on other material but makes it star wars - samurai movies, WW2 movies, spy thrillers, Westerns, resistance stories. When it's just about itself it's weak - a problem throughout the sequel trilogy.
