As someone who became an official for IHSA, the issue isn't the criticism, it's the old farts who have been there for decades who could care less about incoming refs. Also the support system is garbage, the training lacking, and the parents insane.

Why did the NFL swing and miss by fining Joe Mixon and Will Anderson Jr. for criticizing officials? The league is concerned people will choose not to become officials at lower levels of the sport. Which will reduce the supply of future NFL officials.
