(1) The Biden admin expanded overtime coverage under the "white collar exemption." It's complicated; here's a @slate.bsky.social piece I wrote about it. Basically the Biden rule prevents companies from using bogus titles to deprive poorly paid workers of overtime. A legal challenge to this rule is already having success in right wing federal courts. States can enact their own overtime rules (to get wonky: a sufficiently high salary threshold for the white collar exemption) to save these rights in their own jurisdictions. (4/x)

(2) The Biden admin's OSHA proposed a rule to protect workers on extreme heat on the job. It's currently in the comment period. Who knows what will happen in the future when the Trump team takes office or when SCOTUS reviews it?? (Answer: I know. We all do...it's not good.) (5/x)

Rising heat is a huge danger to workers. Commonsense rules would keep workers safe. Whatever happens federally, states can pass their own workplace heat standards—and several have, like CA, WA, OR & MD. More states should do this. I wrote about it here.
