I think a wide view needs to be take on this, in a vacuum this probably is in the interest of both the Ukraine and the US. Trump corrupts the process, but if doing so might tie himself more closely to the success of Ukraine, Trump being a POS caveats of course here.

Now we can appreciate the potential here, without doing what Cuban is doing and pretending this was some reasonable business deal and not a corrupt extortion. But president deals is actually bad at deals so the outcome might not be worse just a grosser path to get to it.

yeah this process is awful but if it gets our Grifter-in-Chief & the MAGA cult members to do the right thing even if for the wrong reason I'll take it. We'll have no shortage of opportunities to be overly generous to Ukraine in the future to make up for this as long as it continues to exist in full

I don't think Ukraine has the domestic capacity to use them is the issue. Like Zelensky probably very much wants outside capital here, the process is gross but some of the potential outcomes are likely parallel to what Ukraine needs.

Agreed. Whatever Ukraine decides it needs to do to win this war, I support their decision. Our obligation is to make that easier.

If Zelensky decides to bargain mineral rights, I will trust his judgement. And then I will do whatever I can to expel Trump so that those concessions remain theoretical.

Under any sane administration, the understanding that the west would be able to access Ukraine's resources on the market post-war should be a baked in assumption.

Given the situation this is being raised in with the Trump administration, I'm not giving them benefit of the doubt.

It is extortion, but to try to look at it from the Ukrainian side the ask itself very well could be something they want to offer in the first place because they won't have the domestic capacity to invest. No excuses need to be made for the process, it is gross.
