I will rewatch trailers for what turned out to be average movies because I’m thrilled by them like the Dragon Tattoo red band trailer I posted recently. I also don’t expect a great trailer to be a great film as might be the case with 28 Years Later. I am no longer disappointed as I was as a teenager
Completely. I don't really trust trailers to even tell me what certain movies will be *like* anymore. Case in point: The trailer for A DIFFERENT MAN looked a lot like it might end up being a cringey inspirational movie about living with a disability. 1/2
THANKFULLY that wasn't the case - instead it was a weirdo A24 movie that had a lot of shared DNA with something like BEAU IS AFRAID, but slightly more entertaining.
The people who make trailers are trying to sell something, but sometimes they don't know how to sell something slightly odd. 2/2
Bang on.
And thanks for the Different Man heads up - was only thinking earlier about whether to watch it or not.
Yes, it’s a marketing tool and with good editors they can mis-sell you goods. That’s why I just appreciate their craft now and expect nothing until I see the film.
I wear my headphones until trailers are over, ha, in case a trailer for any movie I'm wanting to go blind on plays. Loud music and hand over my own eyes. 🤪🙃
Trailers usually ruin the first half hour of a movie. Filmmakers try and intrigue at beginning with minor characters revealed to become bad guy, or hero's surprise disappointments. All ruined in trailers. I suppose franchise fans don't care though.
