Nope, but I did ask him to cut out the nastiness on social media. He’s very nice in person but his twitter is really annoying.

I also thanked him for participation in Pride events as many in his party (and our own mayor) aren’t interested.

I did get one knock when I was home. It was a canvaser for one of the major parties who asked if I was likely to vote for their candidate. A minute or so after I answered honestly that it was unlikely, I saw that candidate and canvaser walk on by to the next house.

Should have dissembled. Ah well.

My local incumbent MP seems to have spent a lot of her time campaigning for other candidates from her party in other risings in town, so I’m not sure she did a tonne of door knocking here. Might be wrong, though, and honestly I think that’s not a big deal.

Good stuff. I place the same value on poverty eradication but your question about CDB strikes me as objectively better than mine as a way of gauging seriousness. (I would have asked about help for working age singles in deep poverty, a group that no one even seems to want to pay lip service)

Your question has a good point, too, since that group gets lost even in many poverty-eradication programs.

What I liked about using the CDB is that it notionally has all-party-support so it’s a commitment “we all” made. So let’s see them follow through.

Absolutely, this is why I think the CDB question is better. And it should be so easy to get it over the finish line, so you can really hold parliamentarians accountable for success or failure in a way that's not possible with an issue that no one is even beginning to think about addressing.

Unfortunately I'm too honest to pretend to be an undecided voter so I never get opportunities like this anyway. The closest I get to this aspect of the democratic experience is during certain intraparty processes (candidate selection, leadership races, etc.)

I’ll rarely say outright who I am voting for, but I also kind of feel like a heel if I give false hope. I know that the time and resources of candidates and volunteers are limited, so it’s kind of a jerk move to use that time up when they don’t have a chance of getting your vote.
