Moore's script was about a boy recreates his mother on the holodeck after she dies on an away mission. Melinda M. Snodgrass did a rewrite to make the fake mom an alien energy being because TNG had already done a lot of holodeck stories, a sentiment I wish the Voyager writers had adopted at any point
