Howard Hughes comes to mind. Hughes Aircraft Corp. Became a recluse in his latter years and lived alone on the penthouse floor of the Acapulco Princess Hotel. Years before he died he stopped trimming his nails and they grew crazy long. I have no idea how much or to whom he left his fortune.
I was not familiar with J.Paul Getty until a trip to California a few years ago, when I stumbled upon the Getty Villa. An incredible collection of ancient artworks left by Mr. Getty free for the public to enjoy. The only cost was for parking. I may have seen one photograph of the man himself.
