Yep - people will change their mind with new info *IF* that new info benefits them or, to a lesser extent, aligns with their values (the ones they actually hold, not just state). I think a lot of arguing misses what you said. They WANT to believe the racist, transphobic, etc. stuff.
As the person whose comment is there, I was specifically talking about outrage over pronouns and supposed leftist language policing. There's absolutely racism and white supremacy built in too for lots of them
It definitely is, but commentators drawing a virtually straight line between 'The left said I had to call someone they' and voting for *all of this* is at best utterly lazy and at worst willfully ignorant of the long road and multiple factors that led us to this point
Though the media didn't treat it that way, it was obvious that to a large extent the inflation "argument" against the Dem candidates was a figleaf for the ugly reality of fear and hate of "the other."
