Coastal Birrin communities have often formed partnerships with the Sardu, particularly co-operative fishing in which they will scout shoals for fishing boats, or dive deep for high value shellfish in exchange for Birrin-made medicines and food.

Surviving the Fall through their intelligence, and continued partnerships with remnant coastal communities, Sardu are now sometimes even employed recovering artifacts from coastal cities drowned by climate change.

How do they communicate? I think of how dolphins and humans can understand each other on more than surface level, but these two species seem to be on par with each other with the complex tasks they can pull off together.

Alex said that Birrin talking sound like bird calls or velociraptor sounds, and it wouldn’t be hard to hypothesize that the Sardu communicate thru similar sounds + echolocation, so maybe that’s how they’re able to understand one another w/ the Birrin?

I don't know how far back in time their species diverged, but there is something romantic and just plain awesome about two species living in wildly different worlds being able to speak the same language.
