I seem to remember when Prince Philip was connected to The WWF he was in favour of some shooting / trophy hunting. He hated 'bunny' & 'tree' huggers, they still cling onto a bygone era. wwf needs to prioritise protection of wildlife not the Royal family.
Thompson said …”There can be a good income by taking people to view the animals – and that is sustainable,” he said. “I think if we just shot the bears to have money, pretty soon we wouldn’t have any more bears and then that’s the end of it”
So why not just do this ?
Philip & some Belgian prince that was one of his hunting pals were the founders, I’ve always refused to support them on the grounds that folk who used to go on tiger hunts shouldn’t be expecting the rest of us to fund the conservation of the few that they didn’t kill off
I remember (sometime in the 90s?) he was questioned about the incongruity between his patronage of the WWF and his past history of big game hunting by a journalist and his reply was along the lines of "what do you know, you weren't even born then."
There are so many good charities/NGOs out there safeguarding wildlife, please do not give the WWF any more money. Four Paws (Vier Pfoten), Wildlife Justice Commission, Animals Australia, Wildlife SOS, these organizations all deserve your support.
To think many of us supported them. They have a cute panda logo but have no qualm in exploiting animals. I read they lobby against protecting other animals too
Unfortunately hunters support conservation & visa versa. Stopping cruelty must ultimately take precedence over conservation. The encarceration of endangered species in zoos to breed is cruel as is hunting deer because of overpopulation. Whatever WWF say, polar bears must be protected from Furriers.
WWF are conservationists not animal rights or welfare. This latest example of their support for the fur trade follows their previous support for the ivory trade. We must be careful before giving any donation to conservation organisations and not give money to the WWF.
