Since there are a lot of new people here: I will point out once again that Paul Singer, the billionaire who owns Barnes & Noble and Waterstones, donated $5m to a MAGA SuperPAC earlier this year, and that’s the money we know about.

Better to use https://bookshop.org, which does give a good percentage to indies, but Hive is fine though a lower commission. Hive is a branch of Gardners, a book wholesalers.
Where do you suggest I get new books from then? Without wandering over to the other side of my county in search of secondhand book shops? Or perhaps I should retire to a monastery somewhere?
Smiths in Weston-super-Mare is crap. We have a Waterstones. That's it. No other bookshops, without wandering over to Bristol, and that's at least a whole afternoon, and then some, and I am busy. Next suggestion?
Aw boo, but I'm afraid Smiths is crap for books and I haven't got the time to jump on a train to Bristol, then on a bus and then wander up through Stokes Croft and along Gloucester Road in search of a suitable secondhand bookshop with no 'baggage', so something's got to give unfortunately.
Thriftbooks is a great website and I have bought from them for years. They work closely with libraries to cycle books in and out of communities and cut down on waste. Prices are pretty good too. As far as I've known they've never donated to any PACs.
(i’m a us-ian and tl;dr my situation means i buy books twice a year, in person—xmas and my bday. finding a b&n alternative is going to be hideous in my part of the world…)
If I worked for B&N, I'd be so mad that he supported Trump. I'd know that my hours were going to be slashed (again) but this time because of people boycotting their local B&N.
Well now I'm glad B&N somehow has trouble processing my credit card (nowhere else has that issue). Haven't been able to order anything from them for years. Now I'm not bummed about that anymore.
