I totally get that some people have businesses to run and need traffic, but the amount of people still posting on Twitter for no reason other than engagement is super disappointing.

I ask organizations of good standing and decency why they persist to dwell at a site w. an owner deliberately harming and distressing people for his own gains. I ask how many of their own staff have friends or family in distress due Musk's unchecked assault on the US.
For Infosec, most of the community made the jump, but the ML/AI and the performance community have sadly remained there :-(. Agree with the sentiment, but I am not innocent due to this.
Said this. It's infuriating when they have a better place, like Bluesky, to share their thoughts. Why are they still there? Maybe it's addictive to be in that chaos.
I was an early adopter with Twitter, back when you had to have an invitation to join. Twitter was going downhill even before Musk, and it tanked completely when he took over. As soon as he took over, I called him a "retarded cunt" and perma-banned me - what I wanted him to do. NEVER going back!!
If The Guardian and LeMonde can leave, switch to Bluesky, and do even better with engagement, and get even higher sales conversion rates, then so can everyone else
They'll likely gain more business by taking a stand
I had to not purchase a product I find high quality that advertises there, asked them why and while it was a decent response I know where the company’s morals stand so no purchase since.
Seriously - if you are okay with supporting a nazi-saluting oligarch literally starving kids in developing countries, and simultaneously working to dismantle our country's institutions, where exactly is your red line?
Part of the problem is this site still feels unfinished when mankind really needs it to be a more complete and viable alternative. The lack of bookmarks, drafts, and being able to post video over 50mb/1min long. If we must use YouTube it needs to be enabled by default for all users.
With changes in the platform - not just user base, but functionality re:links and such - I don't even know how it is valuable for commercial reasons anymore. I have a ton more "followers" over there but don't see how I can effectively use that for my training events now.
Yeah, a lot of it is just dead air due to the algorithm changes. I remember on a good day it was hard to reach even 1% of my followers, now I imagine it's basically just yelling into the void. I strongly suspect they platform is also juicing engagement numbers to keep people around
It sucks that those kinds of people are the only reason I still check twitter periodically. I want to see posts from (still a long list of) people that won't leave that site, presumably because they'll lose a ton of followers, most of which are bots.
I suspect a lot of the posts on Twitter are just on auto-pilot. They have a script set up to push a post out on a half dozen different platforms and they haven't seen the need to disconnect it.
The only part of my feed still active are the Ukraine war bloggers and they want to reach anyone they can
It's completely vile. I'm considering them nazis. Sit at the table with the nazi, it makes you one. Drive their leaders cars, or use his social media platform also means, you support a nazi....so it makes them at the very least, a Nazi-sympathizer. Just Nazi-Lite really, like no hand genstures
I don't engage over there. The ONLY reason I keep my account is to send meme's, news articles and such directly to trump and Musk's accounts to let them know we're not afraid of them. Talking about them here doesn't reach them.
I stopped posting on X after Elon took it over, because I knew it was going to be a disaster. Those who still post there are either beholden to Elon or their heads may be under quicksand.
To anyone that still is on twitter just know that you are supporting Elon Musk. That is his platform, his business and he makes money from ad revenue.
And even if you have a business there pick other places to promote. Don't put money over people, democracy and freedom.
Being on Twitter is supporting Musk by choice. No ifs, ands, or buts. I don't care if it's Jasmine Crockett or Brian Tyler Cohen or The Dalai Lama. Everyone there is perfectly fine with putting money in Musk's pocket.

I got, fucking crickets.

It's a great place to leave.
No, maybe not click throughs though, I grant you.

But, I read, I don't twit anymore
NO FEAR!

Quit Twitter.
