It's frustrating as we all know he can do the comic acting in his sleep. But the more dramatic scenes in OFMD and his role as Madigan shows how wonderful he is at the serious stuff. I need someone to take a chance on him to show the wider world that
he does so many bit roles which is weird to me. they’re not really cameos bc I don’t think he’s big enough in the US to be recognizable to most people so like. what are we doing. recognize his leading man potential or ELSE 🔫
yeah theyve really not considered what a great range he has...not just goofball..
Never get over a character being brought to life like he did with Stede.
I get veeeeery strong low self esteem vibes from him so I wonder if he painted himself into a corner in his earlier days by only ever going for roles like that. I hope his success as Stede gets him more roles and more confidence
tricky one..and yes from a few quotes back in early fandom days he was going to retire from touring/comedy. Until he got the role of Stede and it gave him the excitement of bringing back his stand up etc.
i guess you never think of famous people having low self esteem..but i think you might be right
Aww man, I'm so glad he's brought back his stand-up! I genuinely cannot get over how amazing he is as Stede.
And yeah, I get similar vibes from T, though to a lesser extent. It's one I recognise though: that ND weirdo who realises that if they laugh at themselves it makes them harder to bully
I try not to read too much from whatever we glimpse at celebrities because it's always through a lot of layers of separation but the overconfident boasting persona of Waititi always felt like an armour to me more than an actual persona but again massive ladle of salt on this as I don't know him.
As much as people glam it up, being an actor is very unstable. You never know where your next contract meal is coming from- or if it is with it worse today. He takes what he can get for some security, but I agree, he needs to be put out there more for large roles. He's proven well over he's got it.
He's fortunate to have his comedy as a fallback, which is a huge help. He's built recognition for a steady audience.
It's tough out there for anyone not already highly known in Hollywood, and it sucks that golden talent like his is often overlooked for bland stuff we all have seen over and over.
